The Data Studio client provides an integrated development environment for instance and database administration, routine and Java application development, and query tuning that can be installed with other IBM software products so that they can share a common environment.
You can also choose to download the full Data Studio image, which includes a copy of IBM Installation Manager. Downloading the full product image is useful when installing Data Studio on a computer without an internet connection or when you want to install Data Studio on multiple computers. The full client includes both the database administrative and the application development capabilities. The development environment is Eclipse-based. This offers a collaborative development environment by integrating with other advanced Eclipse-based tools such as InfoSphere Data Architect and InfoSphere Optim pureQuery Runtime. The administration client is a subset of the full client. On distributed platforms, you do need not to install any Db2 ODBC client driver for connectivity. ibm_db itself downloads and installs an odbc/cli driver from IBM website during installation. Just install ibm_db and it is ready for use.
This is a well written article, but I do not see the driver appearing in my odbc datasources. I am using a windows 7 x64 pro system. I followed all of the procedures in your article, and had no problem. I even downloaded the v9.7fp9_ntx64_odbc_cli.zip client, and repeated the procedure. No luck getting the driver to display in the odbc datasource module.
